What you’ll discover here
Mochlos is one of the few villages in Crete, where you can enjoy a meal on the seafront without being disturbed by motor traffic. The little road along the sea is used by the inn-keepers - to the delight of the visitors and local people - as extension to their terraces. During off-season, the village counts a good hundred inhabitants. 10% of the population are foreigners. This shows that travellers like Mochlos enormously. Be prepared of falling in love with the place.

Endless Blue
Be prepared for a trip full of surprises. This picture was taken in the sea, just across Psira island.
Surprising waters
The little island just opposite the fishing village of Mochlos, is also the archaeological site of an ancient Minoal settlement. There is evidence that Mochlos island was attached to the mainland and acted as an eastern harbour. The excavated tombs and villas were full of artefacts, stone vases and goldwork.
The whole of this route will simply amaze you with its unparalleled beauty and the diversity of the coastline
Secluded maroons
The beautiful town of Agios Nikolaos embraces the picturesque lake, and is lined with neoclassical homes, restaurants, bars and shops. The setting is reminiscent of a typical Greek island: it is worth wandering around the town, stopping to enjoy a drink near the marina. In the heart of the town you’ll encounter an exceptional port that has been annually awarded a Blue Flag for its clean waters.
